Stripping location data from photos¶
Photos carry hidden information, most notably the GPS coordinates of where they were taken. Removing it before sharing sensitive images is a small habit worth having.
Android¶
Android camera settings include a “Remove location data” option that stops photos storing GPS coordinates in the first place.
For photos already taken, the Scrambled Exif app from the Play Store cleans them before sharing.
iPhone¶
Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services lets location access be turned off for the Camera app, so photos no longer record where they were taken.
For photos already taken, the share sheet can drop the location before sending: tap Share, then Options at the top, and turn Location off. The image then goes out without its GPS coordinates.
